What The First Step do…
The First Step is a charity organisation that work with victims and survivors of domestic abuse. Their vision is to address domestic violence and abuse, help promote self determination and self empowerment to all who access their services and, lastly defend the human rights of their victims and survivors.

HOW THEY HELP
The First Step offer a listening ear and help make sense of the current situation. They offer one-to-one meet ups in a safe place of the client’s choice, or if they wish to stay anonymous a phone call can be arranged. They explore and discuss options which may include possible legal options to help the client. They will asses the risk and help create a safety plan for the person in question. Find out more here.
ROSS HOUSE REFUGE
‘A bright, friendly refuge for women and women with children’
Ross House is a safe place for women and children suffering from domestic abuse to live, it is a supportive and friendly environment with staff who will listen without any judgement. They provide one-to-one support and weekly opportunities to see a GP, Nurse or Health Visitor if required. At Ross House, support will be provided when applying for benefits and staff will be on site 24 hours a day, everyday. To find out more about Ross House, click here.
IDSVAs
Independent Domestic and Sexual Violence Advocacy Service
This service work with victims (male and female) who have experienced domestic and sexual violence and have been assessed as high risk. IDSVAs work directly with victims to identify, assess and manage risks, a safety plan will also be created to increase safety for them and any children.
